These hybrid stepping motors rotate at fixed angles by digitally controlled electronic pulses. The hybrid stepping motors are also used in the paper-feeding devices of printers, copy machines, facsimiles and similar equipment. Hybrid stepping motors combine a rotor with a permanent magnet and a magnetic body using ball bearings.

Hybrid stepping motors manufactured by NMB include standard NEMA sizes 14 to 23, with step angles of 1.8, 3.75, 0.9 and 5.

Permanent Magnet Stepping Motor's Basic Structure

Permanent magnet (PM) stepping motors use a permanent magnet (PM) as a rotor and contain no ball bearings. These permanent magnet stepping motors rotate at fixed angles by digitally controlled electronic pulses.

The stator section of permanent magnet (PM) series stepping motors consists of coils, stator yokes, in/out terminals and stators molded together in one piece by plastic resin. As seen in the diagram, the permanent magnet stepping motors are assembled simply by combining stator with rotors of cylindrical permanent magnets.

Permanent magnet stepping motors are widely used in printers, copiers, and scanners, or to activate valves in household water and gas systems, and as actuators in automotive applications.
